Lagunitas is one of the most well-known names in craft beer. Back in 2014, my wife and I had a chance to make a pilgrimage to their original brewery, now known as the Lagunitas TapRoom & Beer Sanctuary, located in Petaluma, California, located 45 miles north of San Francisco.
Founded in 1993 by Tony Magee, the Petaluma site was christened after they outgrew their original Marin County site in less than a year.
The facility contains a well-stocked souvenir area, the original bar, and a spacious outdoor beer garden.
The outdoor beer garden is the highlight of the facility. With the right weather, it’s the perfect, chill environment to hang outside and enjoy a few pints with friends.
The outdoor space is dog & family friendly as advertised. This was the highlight of the visit for my non-beer drinking (yet dog nuts) wife 🙂 The outdoor garden has enough space for unique events, as well as plentiful live music. Since it’s a covered outdoor space, the often rainy Northern California climate can not spoil the festivities.
Lagunitas has long been known for their carefree Cali attitude and sense of humor, and the taproom in Petaluma is no exception to that.
With so many other famous breweries in the area, a visit here can be combined with other incredible stops. As we wound up at Russian River Brewing in Santa Rosa in the evening, this was truly one of those incredible bucket-list beer days for me.
